In July, the people of the UK headed to the polls for the General Election, with GB News providing live, up-to-the-minute coverage.
Innovative Graphics for Real-Time Results
British broadcaster GB News chose everviz to deliver branded election graphics showing real-time voting results on all platforms. In the past, GB News created election graphics manually using traditional broadcast software, which required manually adding voting results.
With everviz’s HTML-based graphics, the system was connected directly to live voting data, ensuring the charts auto-updated with results as the votes ticked in. Additionally, the everviz graphics could be easily exported and optimized for different platforms, allowing GB News to deliver a seamless experience across TV, web, and mobile.
Branded and customized election graphics
The everviz team customized the election graphics to match the broadcaster’s branding and created different versions of the charts specifically for online and linear TV.
Additionally, everviz provided an interactive map showing county results on a touchscreen TV in the studio, allowing the presenter to click on each county. The map would zoom in, enabling the presenter to discuss the results in detail.
Maximizing Coverage Across Platforms
A significant number of viewers tuned in on the GB News app, where the graphics auto-resized to fit mobile screens.
Archie Brooks, GB News Head of Digital Product & Delivery, noted: “The graphics were readily available for people accessing the app. They fit all mobile screens and showed updated results, maximizing coverage on all platforms. The same graphics were also displayed on the GB News website, ensuring our audiences had access to real-time results on the digital platform.”
Audiences followed voting results for their constituencies (all 650 of them) on live TV, the website, and mobile. The graphics auto-adapted to each platform and auto-updated as the votes rolled in throughout the day.
A New Era in Broadcasting Graphics
everviz helped GB News achieve their goal of informing audiences with breaking election results, says Stephen Willmott, the Head of Technology and Operations at GB News. “This was a big project for us. It marked a new way of creating and publishing broadcasting graphics, moving the workflow from desktop apps to web apps and the cloud. This is a big focus for us, and everviz fits perfectly with this effort.”
