We’re excited to announce a new set of drawing tools for Location Maps in everviz.
You can now add lines, circles, and polygons directly to your maps, giving you greater control over how you visualize spatial relationships, highlight areas, and tell compelling geographical stories.
Whether you’re mapping delivery zones, visualizing travel routes, or outlining areas of interest, these new tools make it easy to add geographic context to your data.
More flexibility, more visual impact
The new drawing tools allow you to
- Draw lines to indicate routes, connections or directional flows
- Add circles to represent ranges, coverage areas or zones around specific points
- Create polygons to highlight custom regions, boundaries or clusters
Each shape includes default styling, and we’re happy to tailor it to match your specific design preferences. You can also label shapes to make your maps more informative and accessible.
How it works
Start by opening the Draw tab within the Location Map editor. From there, you can

- Select the shape you want to use: line, circle or polygon
- Click on the map to define points or radius
- Customize the appearance using the style settings
- Save and publish your interactive map
You can draw multiple shapes on a single map and edit them individually at any time.
For a step-by-step walkthrough, see our Location Map help guide.
Use cases
These new features are especially valuable for journalists and storytellers who want to add visual clarity to location-based reporting. For example
- Highlighting specific areas in conflict zones, election regions or areas affected by climate events
- Drawing migration routes, protest paths or evacuation corridors to support narrative context
- Illustrating custom geographic areas not covered by standard map regions
Whether you’re reporting on current events, building interactive explainers or visualizing trends over time, these tools give you the flexibility to shape your maps to the story you want to tell.a, these tools help you present it with greater clarity and precision.
Available now
Lines, circles and polygons are now available in all Location Maps. You’ll find the tools in the Draw tab the next time you open a Location Map project.
We’re looking forward to seeing the maps you create. If you have feedback or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you.
